A tender for the manufacturing of rail coaches and control systems for Qatar’s $41bn Greater Doha Metro project is likely to be floated by the second quarter of 2013. According to The Peninsula, Qatar Rail has issued a statement which says that a workshop is planned for December aimed at informing prospective bidders – both suppliers and contractors – about the tendering process and the safety aspects expected of the control system.

Qatar Railways Company has awarded five contracts totalling $400 million for the country’s integrated railways network, according to Gulf Times. The contracts, which were signed yesterday in Doha, will be expected to come into effect in Q1 of 2013 and will contribute towards the metro system as well as the proposed international high speed passenger rail and freight network.
