In June 2008 the Department of Transport in Abu Dhabi deployed a public transportation service for Abu Dhabi with brand-new, world-class, handicap-accessible buses operating in Abu Dhabi City and suburbs, Al Ain, and Madinat Zayed. In Abu Dhabi City and suburbs, the bus service runs daily from 5:00 AM to midnight during the week and until 2:00 AM on the weekend. Various fares make the public transport affordable and comfortable.

Bus Routes and Tickets

Comprehensive maps with all bus routes and their timings are provided on Ojra website. The buses stop at the main stations designated to each route, as well as at every lay-by between the main stops, should passengers wish to board or disembark.

Passengers can purchase the Ojra Bus Pass issued by the Department of Transport directly at the bus stands or any Red Crescent kiosk on Abu Dhabi Island.

The types of Ojra Bus Passes are:

  • One Trip Ticket
  • Monthly Pass
  • Senior Citizen
  • Special Need

The Implementation Plan

The public transportation service is implemented within a two-year plan to gradually overhaul the emirate’s public transport network and infrastructure in line with “Plan Abu Dhabi 2030″:

  • June 2008: 258 buses (125 new and 133 refurbished) are gradually deployed on high-traffic routes of Abu Dhabi Emirate.
  • 2009: New buses enter the service, the suburban routes are enhanced, and customer services developed further by introduction of a Toll Free Number for enquiries.
  • 2010: 1,360 world-class buses provide comprehensive service coverage within cities and link the emirate’s urban areas.
