Doha Metro rail line soil testing in final phase

By Satish Kanady

DOHA: The geotechnical engineering works, including the soil testing, of three key lines of Doha Metro entered the final phase. The contract works, which range up to six months in duration, will be completed soon.

Advanced Construction Technology Services (ACTS), the region’s leading provider for geotechnical engineering, materials testing, and consulting, which won the geotechnical works of Red Line, Green Line and Gold Line, has almost completed the soil testing works and found it ‘perfect’.

“We have been into the works for the past few months. Understanding the soil nature is key for enabling the design parameters of the rail line. Everything is going fine for the project, Khaled Awad, the Chairman and Founder of  ACTS told The Peninsula.

“We have already completed soil testing of three lines and their ground investigations. The parameters will soon be given to the rail line designers”, he said.

Understanding soil texture is important for the calibration of rail line. When you have heat and humidity together you will have problems in terms of longevity of structure. In such climatic conditions you need to make concrete more durable.

Worth over QR5m, the contract will see ACTS delivering  programme of geophysical works of all the three lines. The over 65 km long Green Line, including 37 km underground, will have 31 stations. The 30.6km long Golden Line, with 13.1 km underground, has 20 stations. The total length of Red Line North is 55.7km, including 13.1km underground stretch. Red Line South covers a total stretch of 42.8km, including 12.8km underground. More info
